On December 15, 2024, the groundbreaking ceremony for the new energy commercial vehicle factory, a collaboration between Yutong and Qatar’s national transportation company Mowasalat, officially took place in the Umm Alhoul Free Zone in Qatar. This is Qatar’s first electric commercial vehicle assembly plant and Yutong’s first new energy commercial vehicle factory in an overseas market, marking another significant milestone for Yutong in the international market.

Chinese Ambassador to Qatar, Cao Xiaolin, Qatar’s Minister of Transport, Mohammed, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Faisal, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Abdullah, and CEO of the Qatar Investment Authority, Mohammed, along with other distinguished guests, were invited to attend and witness this significant moment. The event also received extensive coverage and attention from leading local media outlets, which highly recognized Yutong’s active contributions to advancing Qatar’s green transition and upgrade process.

The factory covers a total planned area of approximately 53,000 square meters and is expected to be completed and put into operation by the end of 2025. It will enable localized research, development, and production of electric city buses, metro feeder buses, school buses, and other products. In the initial phase, the factory will have an annual production capacity of 300 vehicles, with plans to gradually increase this capacity to 1,000 vehicles per year. This expansion aims to meet the growing demand in local and neighboring markets, continuously providing greener and more efficient transportation solutions for public transit systems in the Middle East.
