On August 27, 2024, Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness, Minister of Finance and Public Service Nigel Clarke, Minister of Science, Energy, Telecommunications and Transport Daryl Vaz, and Chairperson of the St. Catherine Disability Association Christine Keene together pushed a wheelchair to assist a disabled person in boarding a brand-new bus via an inclined wheelchair ramp. This was the most exciting part of the handover ceremony for 100 Golden Dragon CNG natural gas buses that were prepared to be put into operation after arriving at the port. “We hope these buses will provide more public transportation convenience for the people of Jamaica,” said Andrew Holness with pride as Caribbean enthusiasm and joy filled the scene. Just six months ago, Daryl Vaz had announced this news to the Jamaican people through a press conference, stating that many new buses would be launched in 2024: “An era of efficient, reliable, and comfortable transportation is about to arrive.”
100 Golden Dragon buses with the yellow elements of the Jamaican flag as their base color became one of the main highlights at this delivery ceremony. “The delivery ceremony signifies that our new buses are about to be put into operation, and we are very honored to contribute Chinese strength to improving Jamaica’s public transportation environment. This is also the largest single bus order in the country’s history so far,” said Wang Jinji, Deputy General Manager of Golden Dragon Bus Overseas Sales Company. He told reporters that this handover ceremony for 100 Golden Dragon buses has received widespread attention from all levels of Jamaican society.
