On September 28, the celebration of Dongfeng Motor’s 55th anniversary and the opening of the 12th Employee Sports Games took place, marking a grand sporting event for Dongfeng employees. Not long ago, Dongfeng Motor reached the milestone of 60 million units sold.
In 1969, builders from all over the country, carrying the mission of “turning the tide for the automotive industry,” began a monumental effort to establish an independent automotive industry in the mountains of Shiyan, Hubei. With only makeshift shelters and lanterns, they embarked on this remarkable endeavor. From the military “Hero Vehicle” EQ240 to the first civilian vehicle EQ140, and later the “Wealth Creation Truck” 8-ton diesel, Dongfeng Commercial Vehicles has always been rooted in self-reliance and independent research, driving the difficult yet determined growth of China’s national automotive industry.
In 1975, Dongfeng Motor successfully developed China’s first generation 2.5-ton military truck (EQ240), which excelled in combat strikes, emergency supplies transport, and logistical support missions. The reputation of Dongfeng military vehicles as “Meritorious Vehicles” and “Hero Vehicles” was established. In 1978, Dongfeng Motor fully shifted its focus to the production of 5-ton civilian cargo trucks (EQ140), with the first batch of products rolling off the assembly line and entering the market.
On the path of China’s steadfast commitment to developing new energy vehicles, Dongfeng Motor has seized the opportunity to position itself as a pioneering leader in this transformation. It has established a “4+2” business layout, encompassing independent passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, parts, financial & service sectors, as well as Dongfeng Nissan and Dongfeng Honda. The “1+n” R&D system is accelerating improvements in research efficiency. Dongfeng is advancing on multiple fronts: the leap in independent new energy vehicles, innovation in independent R&D, the rise of commercial vehicles, and breakthroughs in parts manufacturing. This comprehensive effort is continuously enhancing the brand, platform, products, and core resources in its independent new energy vehicle ecosystem.
Dongfeng Motor is committed to strengthening and expanding its national automotive brand, creating a brand portfolio that covers the luxury, premium, and mainstream markets. This includes the “Dongfeng Warrior” brand for the luxury electric off-road market, the “Dongfeng Voyah” brand for the high-end new energy market, and the “Dongfeng Aeolus,” “Dongfeng Yi Pai,” and “Dongfeng Nano” brands for the mainstream market. Dongfeng provides users with a rich and comprehensive range of new energy products, accelerating its growth. From January to August 2024, Dongfeng Motor sold 530,000 new energy vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 108.5%, while its independent brands sold 873,000 vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 44.8%.
